How WalMart hurts our Economy

Walmart moves into small town America and pushes out the smaller companies. Not only does Walmart push out the little guy, Walmart out sells the other major department stores and now even the grocery stores. WalMart is able to do this because they move into towns that can't afford to buy products at a slightly higher rate, there by pulling the customers away from all other retailers.

How WalMart can sell products cheaper

Most product suppliers set there own prices, and they set these prices by figuring out how to make a profit and supply the necessary benefits and wages to its workers. WalMart sets the prices and forces the suppliers bring down there prices otherwise the suppliers go out of business. If the supplier's refuse to meet these rates, WalMart can purchase there products over seas at very low rates. Which brings me to my next point, When WalMart first came to my town, there big marketing plan was “Made in America”. This was actually pure genius, because it made all of the poor blue collar workers feel like they were helping there fellow Americans. WalMart used to get its products from American companies, after most Americans became accustom to shopping there, they slowly lowered there prices by cutting down the American Manufacturing If the manufacturing companies couldn't meet there outrageous demands, WalMart would then get there products from over seas. If you don't believe me, look at the label from any clothing product from Walmart, I would almost bet it is from a country that we are at war with.

How Walmart drains your local economy

About a year ago, the city I lived in, La Crosse Wisconsin, lost one of its major manufacturer La Crosse Footware went out of business, because they couldn't compete with the labor demands of America, they had to ship there plant over to a foreign country. La Crosse Footware used to be able to sell there shoes to department stores at a rate that made it possible to pay employees a decent wage and also supply benefits, WalMart grew so big so fast that it crushed this company. In the same news broadcast, I heard that La Crosse Footware was moving there plant, but it was ok, because we just got a second WalMart Superstore. So La Crosse lost approx, 1,000 good paying factory jobs, and gained 1,000 minimum wage jobs. The local mayor went on the news to say how great it was that we got another WalMart. This happens in smaller areas all around America, and we wonder why 80% of families make under 25,000 a year. If WalMart was such a great company, why wouldn't they pay there employees a little more, or even hire American citizens, instead of the Mexican immigrants. WalMart used to be a pro-America company, but now it is ruining our economy. I know it is hard to pass the local WalMart and go to another store selling the same product for a higher rate, but don't you think that it would be better to keep at least some of the money in America.

Boycott WalMart

If we collectively boycott going to WalMart, WalMart will be faced to meet the demands of the consumers. WalMart needs to recognize its social responsibility that it has to the American people, and that WalMart is going to go out of business if it doesn't start to help gain back the manufacturing jobs that it has stolen from the American worker. WalMart had a net income of 10.2 billion dollars, surely WalMart can pay a little more to its employees and to its supplier's. Start shopping at different stores and help spread the wealth across America, that is also being Patriotic.
